Industrial visit to Hindpac by MBA & PGDM Student of IIBS Bangalore

Industrial visit was organized for Management students of IIBS Bengaluru in association with Rotary Heritage – NCC to HINDPAC , Advanced packaging systems. Advanced Packing systems is a managed group of eminent and dedicated professionals and are engaged in manufacturing HINDPAC automatic form fill and seal machines since 1995. We insist on the extremely high standard of quality.

The HINDPAC machines are available in various models in mechanical & Pneumatic (with single & double heads) for a different type of products. Mr. Ramesh Devadiga, Chairman and functional heads briefed the students about the raw materials, functionalities of machines; process involved in manufacturing thermocol, which is used for packaging by electronics, home appliances companies. MBA Students had an exposure to various practices such as material management, Quality management which will help them understand the management concepts from a practical perspective.

Mr. Ramesh Devadiga also gave input to the students about starting the business and factors to be considered which involves taking care of 6 M’s of an organization from Manpower to markets that form a crucial part of the business. Students were accompanied by Rotarians Ms. Rashmi Tanksali, Ms.Thamarai Selvi, Rtr Rahul Parashar faculties Prof. Rubina, Prof. Manoranjan and Prof. Chaitra.

Art of Teaching: Eastern vs western by Dr. K N Gandhi, Professor, Harvard University, USA || IIBS Bangalore

IIBS Bangalore Campus hosted an eye-opening event for faculty members on 19th March 2019 - National Faculty Development Program.  The main motive of this workshop was to understand the different teaching methodologies in eastern vs. western part of the world.

The session was conducted by Dr. Kanchi Natarajan Gandhi (Dr. K N Gandhi). His is the senior nr. registrar and bibliographer at Harvard University, USA.

Dr.K.N.Gandhi talked about the art of teaching eastern vs. western. He shared his experience with Harvard University and explained different strategies of teaching in classrooms.

This programme was very interesting and informative for students as well as for IIBS Professors.

The main motive of the program was to give brief information on

• How to teach in the class?
• What new methods can be brought in the teaching?
• Methods to learn and retain knowledge.

The approach to connect with target audience was inspiring as Sir initiated his speech by explaining about motivation. He put forward a good comparison between how education in USA and education in India would shape the thought process and develop skills of analysis from a very juvenile stage in human minds. Even though he praised the methodology of US education to build analysis abilities, he did not overlook how traditional methodology of learning mental calculations imbibed by the Indian  young mind would enable them to stand out in Foreign Lands. Sir explained how focusing on advance and complex teaching to students will automatically structure their basics and bring clarity to them. He encouraged us to contribute for the betterment of our education system by all means and also gave an insight on how to pursue Fellowship/PhD abroad to enhance our career. -Prof. Swati Sen

Women Empowerment in Factories - a workshop was organised by FICCI | IIBS, Bangalore

Women Empowerment in Factories - a workshop was organised by FICCI – The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in association with Walmart and Swasti on 15th March 2019 at Taj Vivanta Hotel, MG Road, Bangalore.  The workshop focused on Women in Factories (WiF) Program Enriching Lives and Improving Business.

The inaugural session was addressed by Ms Lakshmi Ishwar, Immediate Past Chairperson, FICCI Ladies Organisation & Director, Cerebral Consultancy Private Limited.

Keynote address by Ms Sridevi Kalavakolanu, Senior Director – Responsible Sourcing Business Enablement, Asia, and Walmart spoke about Walmart initiatives to support women in the industry and business.

Mr Ullas Kamath, Chairman, FICCI Karnataka State Council & Joint Managing Director, Jyothy Laboratories Limited spoke about Jyoti Lab’s employs women in its operational functional areas except in field sales area.  The women employees always excelled in production & achieve targeted production scale, whereas the field sales functional area mostly men dominated is a step behind the production. 

Mr Joseph Julian K G,  Director, Swasti Health Catalyst, Bangalore spoke about the Swasti Health Catalyst training the women in life skills development and improved lifestyles of working women.

Panel discussion on “A Perspective On Women Empowerment Programs In Factories” was Chaired by, Ms Sridevi Kalavakolanu, Senior Director – Responsible Sourcing Business Enablement, Asia, Walmart and key Speakers were Mr Prasad V Desponded, AGM Training & Development, IDEPL, Bangalore ;  Ms Vasudha Vasuki,Managing Director, Shell Apparels Private Limited, Bangalore;                 Mr Balram J Menon, Founder & Managing Director, Adroit Facilities Management Services Pvt Ltd, Chennai ; Ms Ruparani, Founder President, Federation Of Indian Women Entrepreneurs(FIWE).

The technical session was on “Women in Factories Program, The Journey towards Personal Growth for Women Workers” presentation by Mr Shankar AG, Swasti Health Catalyst,                                        and Bangalore about:

•  Improved self-esteemed and efficiency.

•  Improved health and wellbeing.

•  Increased income and savings.

•  Improved prospects for career growth and development.

•  Improved ownership towards the factory.

Another technical session was on “Impact of Women in Factories Program on the Business, A Study Tuffs Labor Lab” – presented by Ms Nithya B - Swasti Health Catalyst, Bangalore. She presented on:

•  Improved productivity and efficiency.

•  Reduced retention.

•  Reduced absenteeism and late coming.

•  Improved interpersonal relationships.

•  Reduced out-of-pocket expenses.

•  Improved policies and system.

•  Built internal capacity.

Learning from the workshop is:

•  The motive of this workshop was to promote women empowerment and bring a light of hope for working women.

•  We as postgraduate management students found it more useful in perspective of corporate life.

•  We came across so many real-life examples of working women who had a very hard time in their professional life.

•  We also came to know how an organisation called Swasti made an attempt to look up for those women and helped through training which was a life-changing step.

•  We got to see corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, CEO and such great personalities in this session.

•  It was a glimpse of how corporate people behave, talk, their attire and the etiquettes they follow in their professional life.

•  As a girl, it was a proud moment when great personalities despite gender came forward to address the potentiality of women.         

•  Being in the city, I believed that we are in an era where girls are exposed to everything and they got to choose their own decisions.

•  But this workshop made me realise that it is not the case everywhere.

•  Girls and women of the rural and low-class background are still struggling; there is no space for women empowerment there.  

•  We believe that transformation cannot happen in a single day, we as a whole need to work on women empowerment only then we can be successful.

•  Conclude by saying that only thoughts and words will not work for implementation rather we need to act on it.

It was a great opportunity for us to attend this workshop and we are thankful to Dr. A Prakash, Professor, and IIBS who collaborated with FICCI and extended us this platform where we came across wonderful corporate personalities and learned about women.

IIBS Hosted an Eye-Opening Event for the MBA Students

IIBS Bangalore hosted an eye-opening event for the B-School students, on 13th March 2019. On the world Rotaract Day, the students were graced with the presence of two renowned ladies, Rtn.Thamarai Selvi N, and Ms.Linda Ann John. A corporate storyteller by profession, Rtn. Selvi, made the Post Graduate management students realize the art of storytelling and the importance of this, even when it has been there for centuries. Her stories, made the Business school students think with a different perspective and allowed them to apply their management skills in a whole new direction.

Ms. Linda, a coach, trainer, and educator, by profession, made it sure that the students applied their storytelling inbuilt capabilities to have a refined outlook towards any incident in their lives and reproduce it with a set of management skills within the individuals.

They made it clear, the power of storytelling, and their impact on interviews.

MBA Students took a lot out of this session, as evident from the positive feedback from each of their side. Thus, the workshop on Stories of Success was evidently a huge success.

Rotary's Fight to End Polio Now | IIBS B-School, Bangalore

IIBS Rotaractors had come for Polio immunization day at Bangalore. Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio since 1979, Rotary and its partners worldwide worked to reach 430 million children in 39 countries during polio immunization campaigns in 2017. On 10th March 2019, our sponsor club Rotary Heritage NCC coordinated Polio camps at Primary health care centre, Rajankunte and also at CRPF booth and neighbouring villages. IIBS Rotaractors assisted Rotary Heritage NCC in this Polio eradication camps.

Our sponsor club President of Rotary Heritage NCC Rtn Rashmi Tanksali says IIBS Rotaractors had come for Polio immunization day. RBHN appreciates their support like always. They are surely the best.

Rtn Rashmi Tanksali also informed that: Today's (10th March 2019, Sunday) Immunization report sent by Dr. Madhavi, Rajankunte  PHC (Primary Health Centre) – the Target to immunize 3485 children, we did today  2914 children immunization, i.e.,  83.6% also stated Next 3 days they will continue the Polio drops immunization door to door.  Commendable work by the Health workers and volunteers”.

We still need to reach every child with the polio vaccine – and we’re using innovative strategies to do that, in spite of geopolitical uncertainties. But that’s only one part of our job.  We’re tackling vaccine-derived poliovirus, which can begin to spread in places where vaccine coverage is low. We’re becoming disease detectives, following up on any shred of evidence that wild poliovirus might still be circulating. And we’re fine-tuning our plan to keep the world free of polio forever.

Here’s what you need to know about where we are now. Polio is an intestinal virus that is spread through contact with the feces of an infected person, which can contaminate water or food.

• The virus latches onto a receptor on the surface of a cell, multiplying in the lining of the intestines.
• It enters the cell and hijacks the cell’s own machinery to make copies of itself.
• The virus is released to infect neighbouring cells, spreading from the digestive tract to lymph nodes and the bloodstream.
• The virus replicates and is excreted through feces, starting the cycle again.

MBA Students Enjoy the Farewell Party at IIBS Kolkata Campus

The MBA Batch 2018-20 of IIBS Kolkata organized the farewell programme for the senior batch 2017-19 on 2nd March 2019 at IIBS premises. The programme started at 12:30 p.m with the students participating in various cultural programmes and thereby depicting their talents.

The theme of the programme was ‘Halloween’ and the room was decorated by the students as per the theme. The students dress code was mostly seen in black and white. There was a cultural programme along with lunch.

The students organized various games for the senior batch and the entire team of IIBS Kolkata participated and enjoyed the occasion. This event was a demonstration of their managerial skills of organizing, implementing and completing it successfully which is the ultimate objective of the MBAcurriculum.

One day National Level Workshop organized by VTPC at IIM-B

One-day national level workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights for Global Business: Forward-Looking Agenda for India” was held at IIM, Bangalore organized by VTPC, Govt. of Karnataka in collaboration with FICCI Karnataka and IIM Bangalore. Delegates from diverse backgrounds including Entrepreneurs, consultants, Faculties, Government officials, corporate professionals, students etc participated in the conference. Dr. A. Prakash and Dr. A. Ameer Hussain from IIBS, Bangalore participated in the conference.

The  conference theme Global Competitiveness Ranking and Forward-Looking IRP Agenda for India  the theme was anchored by Prof. A Damodaran, IIM Bangalore 

Sessions on Perspective on IPR regime in India and its impact, Modernising IPR-Administration in India, Geographical Indications, streamlining the transfer of technology through licensing, data protection and privacy and synergies with made in India, startup and digital India and IPR management were held. These sessions helped us to know the various perspectives of IPR by the senior officials via lectures, presentations, and panel discussion. It also paved the way to have a network among the participants from various sectors.
Plenary Sessions on “ Perspectives on IPR Regimes in India and Impact on Corporate Competitiveness, Data Protection Issues in Digital Financial Technologies, Protecting Design Creativity” ;  “Modernizing IPR – Administration India”

 “Geographical Indications -  Protecting Traditional Legacies & Ingenuity of Artisans/Farmers: The Road Ahead”  and the last session was on Streamlining Transfer of Technologies through Licensing and Issues regarding Royalty payments.
